Our International Festival of Hispanic Theater is perhaps our best-known
activity.
Since 1998, we have brought productions from Spain, the Caribbean and all the
Americas for three to ten performances each during a six-week extravaganza.
We regularly receive requests from theater companies around the world eager
to participate in our festival. Productions selected annually represent some
of the best of each countries theatrical offerings. Many of them have won –
or been nominated for – awards.
Plays range from light comedy through farce and drama to deep tragedy. Styles
vary from naturalism to absurdism. We have been honored to host many of Latin
America’s finest actors, directors and technicians during our festivals.
All performances held in our regular theater include live English dubbing.
Theater for children and young people has traditionally been incorporated in
our festivals.
By spotlighting well-known subjects and authors, Teatro de la Luna serves its
basic mission and also introduces new generations to live theater, providing
an opportunity for families to share a positive theatrical experience. Our
International Festival of Hispanic Theater is regularly a participant in the
region’s ‘Stages for All Ages’, sponsored by the League of Washington
Theatres and The Washington Post.
