BRIGIDINA GENTILE (Italy/Mexico). Poet, narrator, anthropologist, and translator. She describes herself as “Italian by birth and Mexican by adoption.” As a poet, she has published: Eros in soffitta e altri ibridi (Salerno, 2018, “Runner up” at the New York Book Festival), Notturni à la carte (Salerno, 2020), Kika. La tombola della regina (Salerno, 2020), Tequila (Salerno, 2023), Babel. Multilingual Poetry, with Mónica Sarmiento, (Salerno, 2024), Tequila. Spirit’s Infused Poetry (Salerno, 2024), Coyolxauhqui (New York, 2024). In fiction, she published the culinary novel J’ai fatigué la salade (I Fatigued the Salad). La vita è come una insalata (Salerno, 2019, Honorable Mention, London Book Festival) and she is also the author of the play Beatrice e lei (Salerno, 2021). She has highlighted the voice of women in literature in general, and of Latin American women in particular, in the anthologies L’altra Penelope. Tessere il mito (Salerno, 2020, Honorable Mention, New York Book Festival 2012), and Leggere donna (with Rosa María Grillo, Rome, 2011).
Brigidina Gentile's literary work draws on the cultural, linguistic, and symbolic traditions of Hispanic and Italian cultures and is distinguished by a profound introspection that addresses themes such as desire, memory, and the body, conceived as sacred spaces of experience and meaning. She constantly transits between languages ​​and geographies, recently venturing into the practice of self-translation. She has received international awards from the Miguel Hernández Cultural Foundation (Orihuela, Spain, 2022), the Ecuadorian Embassy in Rome (2024), and the GloCal Women Foundation RAW (Paris, 2024).
