Angel Torres
is delighted to “finally” appear in a production at Teatro de la Luna. He
was last seen at GALA Hispanic Theatre as “The Devil” in Yerma,
directed by Hugo Medrano. At GALA he has also appeared in The
Passionflower (Esteban), Doña Rosita la Soltera (Don Fermín),
Bonfires at Dawn (Pedro Las Casas), Voces Andinas: The Soul of the
Highlands (ensemble), Pavlov: the dog and the Bell (Armando de la
Noche), and Voces del Exilio (ensemble). He provided simultaneous
interpretation for Airplanes (also at GALA). Other local credits
include A View from the Bridge (Marco) at Source Theatre, Saint
Joan (Robert de Bradicourt) and Life of Galileo (Cardinal
Inquisitor) both at Washington Shakespeare Company. In addition, he has
appeared at Scena Theatre and Arena Stage (Playquest Series).
In Puerto Rico acting credits include Escuadra Hacia
la Muerte, En el Principio la Noche era Serena, Samuel
Beckett’s Act Without Words, No Exit, Lady Windermere’s Fan,
and La Resentida. Angel is a member of the CONAR theater company
(Compañía de las Artes de la Representación), based in San Juan. Also
a playwright, three of his plays, Matilde, Epoca de Celo, and
Resurrecciones, were produced at the 1989, 1991, and 2002 Puerto
Rican Theatre Festivals (respectively), sponsored by the Institute of Puerto
Rican Culture. His plays Cautivar las Fieras and Festín Para los
Necios were presented at the 1980 and 1997 Avant-Guarde Theatre
Festivals of the Ateneo Puertorriqueño (respectively). Other produced works
include Arabesco (1992), Tierras Caídas (1988), and the
children’s musical Habitantes de la Casa Embrujada (1978). Another
children’s musical comedy, Yagrumín el Bravo, was included in an
Anthology of Puerto Rican Theatre for Children, edited by Dr. Rosalina
Perales, which was recently published by the Editorial of the University of
Puerto Rico. |
