A dramatic comedy highlighting a transcendental moment for Latin America’s middle class. A group of people, vastly different in background and condition, attempt a better way of life, casting aside their origins, changing their condition, and in some cases, losing their lives.
About the author
Millor Fernandes, writer, journalist, humorist, caricaturist, set designer, director, and dramaturg, was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1924. He was only 10 years old when his first design was published in O Jornal (Rio de Janeiro), and when he turned 13, he started an on-going collaboration with the magazine, O Cruzeiro. From then on, the publications flowed from the young Millor, and his work was staged by the time he turned 20. By the time he was 34, in 1960, he had received the Brazilian national award for Best Playwright.
Among his major theatrical works are: Man from Beginning to End, Liberty-Liberty, The Size of a Corpse, An Elephant in the Chaos, E’… He has also translated and adapted plays, most notably: The Taming of the Shrew (Shakespeare) and The School for Wives, (Moliere). His art work and caricatures have been exhibited to critical acclaim, and after some work done in the cinema, his television credits opened even more doors to a larger public.
But Millor is essentially a man of the theater, as it is that artistic space that he feels he can fill with all his creative powers, a positive power that drives every line of his work.
