He was born in Monterrey, Colombia. He relocated to Bogotá in 1982, where he is a part of the Llano y Joropo Group, with whom he has garnered acclaim and awards in the principal Llano (a type of music typical of the Venezuelan and Colombia grasslands) music festivals of Colombia and Venezuela. In 1988 he founded the Llano y Joropo Academy, where his master teaching has set him apart as a great new talent forger for the 22 years of the organization’s existence. He has also recorded, via numerous records and CDs, over 250 works, both instrumental
and accompanying distinguished vocalists, and has judged many important Colombian Llano music festivals. His musical interpretation and fluidity are a hallmark of his own compositions, as well as his performance of other composers.
